Clutch cover structural requirements and material selection

As one of the important components, the clutch cover can not only effectively transfer part of the engine torque to the pressure plate, but also support the clutch compression spring and the housing of the release rod. Usually the clutch cover is fixed with flywheel bolts.
In order to meet the use requirements, the clutch cover must meet the requirements in the structural design: First, it must have sufficient structural rigidity so as not to affect the overall performance. In addition, the control separation stroke is increased, the lift of the pressure plate is reduced, and in severe cases, the friction surface cannot be completely separated.
At the same time, in order to ensure the overall balance and coupling stability, the cover and the flywheel must be kept in good neutrality during the structural design. In addition, the cover diaphragm spring support should have a high dimensional accuracy. Ventilation and cooling issues should also be considered to avoid excessive surface temperature caused by friction. Usually a larger ventilation window is required on the clutch cover, so the clutch should be designed in a more special shape, or a ventilation plate or other facilities for blowing air should be installed on the cover to increase cooling and prevent excessive temperature.
So, how to determine its size and how to choose the material? Generally, the specific size and material are determined according to the clutch design requirements. Generally, the inner diameter of the clutch cover is required to be larger than the outer diameter of its friction plate, so that other components can be included in it. In terms of material selection, low-carbon steel die forging with a thickness of 2.5 mm to 5 mm is generally used. Remember, when designing, pay special attention to the rigidity of the clutch cover, cooling and ventilation in the middle, etc.
